VANDERHOOF — Still no word as to when Highway 16 West will fully reopen following yesterday’s (April 21) landslide at Cluculz Lake.

The slide occurred at approximately 4 p.m. and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says it has undercut a section of the highway.

“The slide occurred due to water flowing from the adjacent bank and pooling under the highway. Ministry geotechnical engineers and operations staff, as well as maintenance crews, are on site and working to stabilize and repair the site,” reads a Ministry statement.

“The water has been redirected and work is underway on repairs, which includes shifting traffic over to safely access the undercut location.”

At this time, the Ministry says there is no estimated time for restoring the highway to two lanes of traffic.
