PRINCE GEORGE – It’s taken about a year to fully put together, but the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association has rolled out a new program to help workers during not only a pandemic but the opioid crisis as well.

“Twenty-three percent of employees were comfortable talking to their employers about mental health. We know claims are up. And the risk of suicide in construction workers is seven times the national average,” explains Mike Davis with the ICBA.

Not only that.

According to the ICBC, 55% of the opioid deaths among working people are of those in the construction industry.

The ICBA’s Workplace Wellness Program uses toolbox talk scripts, posters, short educational pieces, online check-ins, and virtual professional development courses, to address key wellness issues such as mental health stigma, respectful workplaces, physical health, suicide prevention, depression and anxiety and financial fitness
