IIO clears Burns Lake RCMP

SURREY — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has cleared the Burns Lake RCMP of any wrongdoing following an incident in Burns Lake on December 6 of last year.

On that day, police responded to a report of an impaired snowmobiler. Officers located the snowmobile operator at a home in the 4700 block of Tchesinkut Road East and arrested him.

While one officer waited with the snowmobile for a tow truck, a woman exited the home and attempted to interfere with evidence.

She was advised she was under arrest and a brief interaction occurred before she was taken into custody.

Though she was found to have sustained an injury the IIO has reviewed the evidence and has determined it does not meet the threshold required for serious harm as defined by the Police Act.
