TWolves on pace for record-setting Legacy Breakfast fundraiser

PRINCE GEORGE – Last week, the UNBC Timberwolves were enjoying the success of yet another Legacy Breakfast, their biggest fundraising event with all of the proceeds going towards scholarships and bursaries for their student-athletes. It put a cap on a truly unprecedented year for the department and its athletes.

“A lot of character, for sure. The one consistent they had was their teammates,” said Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC’s Athletic Director. “I think that helped them get through their academics. But what a long haul, and I’m very proud of them.”

Murdoch admits there’s much they as an athletic department can take from the past year and grow from moving forward.

“If you have the right supports, the right staff, and the right vision, it can happen. That’s what we did.”

As many know, Tampa Bay Lightning head coach and Stanley Cup champion Jon Cooper, a local product, was the keynote speaker. While his message can be taken as a personal token of inspiration, it too can be applied in the direction of the Timberwolves.

“He talked a lot about teamwork and a lot about going through a wall for your teammates. Those are the type of student-athletes we want here at UNBC. We may not have the best, but we have the heart, and I think that goes a long way in how we’re building our program here.”

The online silent auction is still underway until Friday at 7:00 p.m., with plenty of hot items still available. With current funds raised, the Timberwolves are on pace to have the best fundraiser yet, with each and every dollar going to support UNBC student-athletes.

Last year’s event raised just over $80,000 in scholarships and bursaries.
