PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George International Airport will benefit from a new stream of federal funding for targeted airports across the country.

Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra announced two new programs last week to help airports in Canada, one of which YXS qualifies for.

The Airport Relief Fund will is set to provide almost $65 million in financial relief to Canadian airports to help maintain operations.

CEO of YXS Gordon Duke says the funding and streamlined application process is good news.

Duke says he hopes a full Canadian aviation restart plan comes sooner than later as immunizations surpass 55% of all eligible British Columbians on Monday.

YXS will also benefit from a federal capital assistance fund aimed to help move the purchase of equipment and other projects ahead which otherwise would’ve been deferred due to financial challenges.

The funding comes as flights begin to ramp up in Prince George, and new routes begin in June with seemingly all airlines involved.
