411 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 8 in northern B.C.

VICTORIA — The daily number of COVID-19 cases continues to drop in British Columbia.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announcing 411 in B.C. today. It brings the total number of cases in B.C. since the pandemic began to 140,075. Of those, 133,383 people have recovered.

Heres’ the regional breakdown for today’s numbers:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 37
  • Fraser Health: 285
  • Island Health: 12
  • Interior Health: 69
  • Northern Health: 8

Henry says the number of active cases of the virus has dropped to 4,890. Of the active cases, 360 people are currently hospitalized, 127 of whom are in intensive care.

She says there have been two COVID-19 related deaths for a total of 1,650 in B.C.

A total of 2,566,936 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 131,837 of which are second doses.

“First doses are well underway and second doses will be coming soon,” says Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

“With a large, steady vaccine supply and an assurance that most people have their first dose, we will be able to look at how we may be able to accelerate delivery of second doses. We’re monitoring this closely and will have more to share in early June.”
