PRINCE GEORGE- If you’ve gained a few pounds over the pandemic, you’re not alone.

According to experts, the pandemic has taken a big toll on our daily physical activity, and in turn, added some weight along with it.

Some called it the freshman 15 when they went to a post-secondary institution, now thanks to COVID-19, there’s the quarantine 15.

“Unfortunately, the pandemic has been yet another opportunity for diet culture to rear its ugly head,” said Emilia Moulechkova, Dietician with Northern Health. “We’ve all experienced enormous loss this year and we’ve gone through so many challenges and changes, and I think somehow we’re told that our bodies should come out of this looking exactly the same.”

Moulechkova said it’s important to remember that your body is living through a pandemic, and it’s okay for you to be at a different spot than you were pre-pandemic.

She adds that self-care is one of the most important pieces of our routine, adding eating regularly will only benefit our metabolism.

Self-care is different for everyone.
