B.C. launches into first step of COVID-19 restart plan

PRINCE GEORGE — B.C.’s provincial government has announced its COVID-19 restart plan – made possible by dropping COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations along with more than 60 percent of adults vaccinated with their first dose.

The Province says the four-step plan “will be a slow and gradual return to a more normal life, with safety and health protocols such as mask-wearing and physical distancing remaining in place and mandatory during the initial two steps of the plan.”

The first step starting May 25th will allow indoor dining to return at restaurants along with limited indoor religious gatherings to take place.

Recreational travel within your designated health zone is now encouraged. For Prince George, that means travelling anywhere in BC outside of the Lower Mainland is allowed.

Small dinner parties are now allowed with another household according to the plan.

The plan was designed based on data and guidance from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The step-by-step plan will follow approximate timelines and will ease people and businesses slowly out of the pandemic.

The dates included in the plan are tentative and can be changed if case trends change according to health officials.

The plan is hinged on immunizations continuing for the general population, with a combination of case numbers staying low.
