PRINCE GEORGE–Regional Chief of the BC Assembly of First Nations Terry Teegee is speaking out after the bodies of 215 children were discovered at a former residental school this past weekend.

The Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc confirmed the discovery yesterday.

Chief Teegee says that this discovery is further proof of genocidal acts against indigenous people throughout Canada’s history.

“It’s heartbreaking, it’s heart-wrenching the discovery of 215 school-aged children…really I think it’s devastating to all indigenous people that suffered in the residental school systems.” said Teegee.

The chief says that he wants more efforts in searching for other potential gravesites.

“I certainly hope the search continues on to see if there are more bodies that could be found in and around the residental school. And find out where these children came from and repatriate to the communities, nations, and the families.” said Teegee.
