Cougars to play exclusively BC & US-based teams during 2021-22 season

PRINCE GEORGE – The schedule has been set. All that remains is the fans in the stands and the opening puck drop.

The Western Hockey League announced the 2021-2022 regular schedule, and the Prince George Cougars open their season on Saturday, October 2nd against the Kamloops Blazers at the CN Centre.

The Home Opener is one of many exciting nights to look forward to during the 2021-2022 season. The Cougars will release a complete list of Feature Games and Theme Nights closer to the start of the regular season.

“It’s fantastic to be able to look at all of our home games and picture our community back together again, and to know that our team and the CN Centre is going to be a big part of helping our community recover from this pandemic,” said Cougars’ Vice President, Business Andy Beesley. “We’re really happy with our home schedule, as nearly three quarters of our games are on weekend nights, plus we have three games during the Christmas Holidays, including a very special New Year’s Eve game.”

The Cougars will face the four other B.C. Division teams (Kamloops, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria) 12 times each. Prince George will play the five U.S. Division teams (Everett, Portland, Seattle, Spokane, Tri-City) four times each. The 2021-22 regular season schedule will not feature any interlocking games between the Eastern Conference and Western Conference.

Fans will get to see the Cougars at home during the holiday season. The Cougars kick-off a three-game homestand after the Christmas break, starting with a double-header against the Everett Silvertips on December 28^th & 29^th. Fans can ring in the New Year with the Cougars when they host the Kamloops Blazers in a New Year’s Eve clash on December 31^st.

Prince George plays their final regular season home game on April 3rd against the Blazers. The 2022 WHL Playoffs are scheduled to begin Friday, April 8, 2022, with the re-introduction of the Conference Playoff format.

24 of the Cougars 34 home games fall on the weekend, with 10 games on Friday nights, 12 games on Saturday nights, and two Sunday afternoon games. All home games are 7:00 p.m. starts, except for Sundays which start at 2:00 p.m. The Cougars’ New Year’s Eve game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

The 2021-22 season will call for regular capacity in a fan-friendly and safe environment throughout all WHL markets.
