Out-of-control wildfire southwest of Prince George doubles in size
PRINCE GEORGE — There are 39 wildfires burning in the Prince George Fire Centre (PGFC), including two new fires detected within the past 24 hours. Fire Information Officer Alex Lane says one of them was quickly actioned by initial attack crews and is now out.
“The largest fire closest to Prince George is the Chilako fire (G11126/90 kilometres southwest of PG) which is classified as out of control and is now 1471 hectares in size compared to approximately 700 hectares yesterday,” she says.
“Crews have been dealing with extreme fire behaviour over the past several days. Today there are 55 firefighters, 4 helicopters, and 26 pieces of heavy equipment engaged in indirect suppression.”
