Vanderhoof Mayor encourages citizens to get a COVID-19 vaccine

VANDERHOOF – As the drive-thru clinic opens in Vanderhoof, Mayor Gerry Thiessen encouraged residents to get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

“This is not about me Gerry Thiessen, it’s about all the other things that are added into our community,” said the Mayor.

Vanderhoof has trailed the provincial average for first dose vaccinations but is catching up according to Northern Health numbers.

Vaccine access continues to be one of the main issues behind that, and a reason for these after-hours drive-thru clinics.

Northern Health says they are willing to work with the community to meet the needs of shift workers who may not get an opportunity to get a COVID-19 vaccine during regular business hours.

The goal of the drive-thru clinic is also to provide low barrier access to those who may not want to book an appointment, and instead just want to get a vaccine on the spot.
