Shooting in Mackenzie prompts search for man

MACKENZIE — Mounties in Mackenzie are seeking the public’s help in locating a wanted man.

Forty-year-old Emil Laverne Spelman is wanted for a rash of charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm while prohibited and discharge of a firearm with intent.

Police allege Spelman was involved in a targeted shooting last Thursday in Mackenzie.

“On Thursday, July 8 at 1:50 p.m., the Mackenzie RCMP were notified that a man had just attended the hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” says North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

“The subsequent investigation determined the incident took place inside a private residence in Mackenzie. This is believed to be a targeted attack, as both the suspect and victim were known to each other.”

Spelman is described as:

• White male
• 40-years-old
• Five foot 10
• 185 pounds
• Brown hair
• Brown eyes
