More than 1,500 properties evacuated in South Cariboo near Flat Lake, Canim Lake fires

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The Cariboo Regional District is announcing a pair of large evacuations of properties in the path of South Cariboo fires.

The largest relates to the Flat Lake wildfire southwest of 100 Mile House.

The order encompasses all 1,074 properties within a 56,000-hectare area, largely to the north and east of the fire.

Evacuees are encouraged to take Highway 97 north, or use Highway 24 to get to Highway 97.

An alert has been put in place for another 3,086 properties covering 47,905 hectares to the east in the Horse Lake – Sheridan Lake area.

Residents should be ready to leave on very short notice.

Highway 97 through the area remains closed.

Meantime, an evacuation order has also been issued for 482 parcels within a 26,395-hectare area in the path of the Canim Lake fire. The evacuation stretches from the Canim Lake area east to Mahood Lake.

Evacuees are asked to take Mahood Lake Road and other routes west before heading to 100 Mile House.
