Five new AED’s in the North

PRINCE GEORGE – The MLA for Prince George-Valemount held a small gathering at Masich Place Stadium this afternoon to unveil a new all-season automated external defibrillator. The money for it was raised through the newly-created legacy fund in her husband’s name. Bill Bond suffered from a heart condition.

“I think it was important to look at public spaces in Prince George where there wasn’t an AED. And, obviously, in discussions with the City, we felt [Masich Place Stadium] was an appropriate place to put the first one of its kind outside the Lower Mainland.”

But that’s not the end. There are four more AED’s: two going to Valemount and two destined for McBride for a total of five. And there is still enough money in the legacy fund to buy five more.

The legacy fund was created and will be overseen by Community Future of Fraser Fort George.

“The fund has been established and, of course, it will now start generating revenue,” explains Alain Lefebvre with the Prince George Community Foundation. “It’s actually quite a special fund. There was a certain amount that was put aside immediately to buy the AED’s. The rest has been put into an endowment so it’ll be there forever.”

No decision has been made as yet where the additional five AED’s will go.
