CAMPFIRE BAN

BC Wildfire Service reverses decision, puts campfire ban back into place for Robson Valley

MCBRIDE – As the forest fire danger rating hits extreme in parts of the Robson Valley, the BC Wildfire Service in conjunction with the province have announced a campfire ban has been put back into effect.

This comes after criticism from several people who voiced their concerns about the hot weather and dry conditions to CKPG News on Thursday.

On Wednesday the BC Wildfire Service announced the campfire ban would be lifted within the PG Fire Centre, although 48 hours later, they have reversed their decision for the Robson Valley.

The province says the BC Wildfire Service is using all its available resources to fight existing fires.

More than 1,250 wildfires have burned more than 456,000 hectares in British Columbia since April 1, 2021, and people have caused about 34% of those fires.

Human-caused fires are completely preventable and unnecessarily increase the workload of BC Wildfire Service crews.

Campfires are still allowed in all parts of the Northwest and Prince George Fire Centres except for the Robson Valley Fire Zone.
