Quesnel Search and Rescue truck broken into, rope packs and radios stolen
QUESNEL — Quesnel Search and Rescue (SAR) said its support vehicle was broken into and robbed of rescue equipment.
According to Quesnel SAR, three rescue rope packs, along with 200 feet of special rescue ropes, pulleys, carabiners, and brakes, and six Icom portable radios (walkie-talkies) and their backup batteries were stolen.
Gerald Schut, SAR Manager and Communications Officer, said the truck’s storage big also sustained significant damage by the break-in.
“With life saving equipment stolen and the damage to the vehicle and other equipment, Quesnel SAR is hoping that we do not get any emergency calls that will require the rescue equipment and radio communications,” Schut said. “The theft has left the public at rick of a delayed response because Quesnel SAR is still trying to muster resources to allow respond with the right equipment. “
