PRINCE GEORGE – Barkerville has been in the news a lot, with its financial straits.

Before the doors opened on the 2021 season, the Barkerville Heritage Trust was pleading with the government, saying it needed $670,000 to operate. It did open its doors, but only through the good graces of private donors.

That’s why Cherrisse Reink is jumping in.

“I am doing a GoFundMe page. it’s all over Facebook right now,” explains Reink, who is an avid supporter of Barkerville. “I’m also doing a bottle drive right now. I’m putting flyers around town, just trying to get the word out there to bring awareness of what’s going on.”

There is an account set up at the Nechako Bottle Depot

The historic site is actually owned by the Province of BC and the Trust simply operates it n behalf of the Province. It has fallen under the umbrella of a number of different ministries. Currently, it is overseen by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Resource Operations.
