Two-vehicle collision turns fatal after woman in seventies confirmed dead

PRINCE GEORGE – On Wednesday, August 11 at approximately 1:40 PM, Prince George RCMP, BC Highway Patrol and Emergency Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Old Summit Lake Road north of Prince George.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a southbound loaded logging truck collided with a southbound SUV with two occupants, both from Vancouver Island. As a result, the driver of the SUV, a woman in her seventies, died in the collision. The passenger, a man in his thirties, was taken to hospital in critical condition. The driver of the logging truck, a man in his forties, was not injured.

Highway 97 was closed in both directions for a number of hours as police gathered evidence and made the highway safe for travel. The cause of the collision is not known at this time.

BC Highway Patrol in Prince George is leading the investigation with assistance from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement branch, and the BC Coroners’ Service.
