One person arrested after bear spray incident at BCNE

UPDATE (1:25 p.m.): Prince George RCMP say statements from witnesses indicate that a single male youth was the target of the bear spray attack.

RCMP say officers located and arrested an 18-year-old male found in possession of bear spray. RCMP say they received reports at 8:45 p.m. of the bear spray incident at the Fair Grounds on the 2100 block of Ospika Boulevard.

He was released on documents for court in November 2021. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone directly sprayed in this incident is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300.

EARLIER: PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George RCMP confirmed to CKPG Today that they have a suspect in custody following a bear spray incident at the B.C. Northern Exhibition (BCNE) Friday (Aug. 20) evening.

No victims have come forward to RCMP, but a witness tells CKPG Today the bear spray incident happened at around 8:45 p.m. near the children’s rides.

BCNE returned in 2021 after being canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic last. The fair wraps up tomorrow (Aug. 21).
