Sword-wielding woman arrested in Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE — A 43-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly brandishing a sword and threatening police in Williams Lake.

RCMP say it happened yesterday just before 5 p.m. on the grassy area in front of City Hall.

“The female was arrested with the assistance of a police service dog,” says Cpl. Brett Squire. “The 43-year-old female, who is known to police, was transported to Cariboo Memorial Hospital for a mental health assessment and treatment of minor injury.”

He says there were no injuries to police or members of the public. Following medical treatment, the suspect will be facing charges including;

  • Assault with a weapon.
  • Uttering threats.
  • Possession of a Weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking x 2.
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order x 5.
