Over 300 people protest in front of UHNBC against vaccine passports

PRINCE GEORGE – Despite widespread public support for B.C’s vaccine mandate, thousands of people opposed to vaccine passports gathered outside several hospitals throughout the province.

In Prince George – over 300 hundred people filled the streets in front of the UHNBC protesting against the vaccine mandate.

Among the crowd were: nurses from as far as Kitimat, children, vaccinated, and unvaccinated people. A couple of Prince George RCMP vehicles even drove by honking their horns as well.

“I feel disrespected – I am here today because B.C. is already in a nursing crisis, we are short healthcare workers, and then they’re coming out with this mandate that all healthcare workers have to be double vaccinated or else you’re terminated,” said Kitimat LPN, Nissa Wellman.

Throughout the pandemic, restrictions have been met with both support and opposition. But ever since the B.C. government announced its plan for a province-wide vaccine mandate, some groups have become increasingly vocal.

“I am fully vaccinated. But I am pro-choice and I am against passports and against being mandated and against being restricted where we go,” said protester Jennifer Worswick.

Another protester also told CKPG that she too ‘was not anti-vaccine but pro-choice and does not support the vaccine passport.’

As of September 13, 2021, proof of a first dose will be required to enter some nonessential services and a second dose by October 24, 2021. There is still no word on how the vaccine passport will work.
