PRINCE GEORGE– A couple of years ago Speed Studies were done by the city of Prince George on Giscome Road and Blackburn Road. Those studies showed that drivers tended to excessive speed in the area including the top speed of 150 km/hr.

With Blackburn Elementary School, a new bike park, lots of pedestrian traffic, school-aged children, and young families in the area, it made a couple of people concerned.

In response, the Blackburn elementary (BBE) PAC took on the ‘Pedestrian Safety Project’ and fundraised and received grants for a total of $32,000 while working with the City of Prince George to solve the issue. With the money the city has installed ‘Speed Reader Signs’ at the intersection of Giscome and Blackburn Roads and has changed the speed zone to a permanent 30 km/hr playground zone.
