PRINCE GEORGE- As new School District 57 Board Chair Sharel Warrington gets settled in her new role, her first priorities are clear.

The SD57 special advisors report is the main focus for Warrington who says she looks forward to working with the special advisors to putting the 45 recommendations in place.

“I plan to be humble, and I plan to be very very mindful,” said Warrington. “There is so much work that needs to be done, whatever I can bring to that work that is going to move us forward in the right way to make a difference for every child, for all Indigenous children, that’s my goal.”

Ron Pollilo was also appointed Vice-Chair of the SD57 Board of Education, as Trustees Tim Bennett, Betty Bekkering, and Bob Thompson remain as well.

As soon as Pollilo and Warrington were announced as Vice-Chair and Chair respectively, ex-Vice-Chair Shuirose Valimohamed said they were “so colonial looking” over social media.

“It’s hard to respond because in fact, we are,” said Warrington in response to being called ‘colonial looking’ by Valimohamed. “I am working very hard to look deeply inside myself and understand that I have a responsibility to address many of the wrongs that have happened over these years.”

Warrington says work on the by-election has already begun and the SD57 Board of Education will still function even with two vacant seats.
