IIO looking into serious injury incident in Dawson Creek
DAWSON CREEK — BC RCMP have notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Dawson Creek resulting in injury to one woman.
RCMP say just after 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 11, frontline officers from the Dawson Creek detachment were called to the 1200-block of 103 Avenue, for a report of a woman that was allegedly carrying weapons and smashing vehicle windows.
Officers located the woman and placed her under arrest. While attempting to take the woman into custody, police say an interaction occurred between the officers and the woman, resulting in serious injury to the woman. She was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
The IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the woman’s injuries.
