Kolton Cousins named Spruce Kings captain for 2021-22 season
PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Spruce Kings have announced 20-year-old Kolton Cousins as the 21st Captain in franchise history (since joining the BCHL in 1996).
“We have a special group of character people, including many experienced players and leaders this year, so to be named Captain of the Spruce Kings is an absolute honour,” said Cousins. “I have been very fortunate to have learned from so many great leaders in the past and I’m excited to carry over those leadership skills and the lessons I’ve learned to the group. To have the opportunity to throw on the Spruce Kings jersey every day and to represent the city of Prince George is a privilege. I’m excited to show the guys what it takes to be a Spruce King on and off the ice. This 50th anniversary season of Spruce Kings hockey is going to be something special, and we can’t wait to get the best fans in the BCHL back in the Mix!”
“Kolton is an extremely competitive and driven player who sets the standard and conduct for the Spruce Kings,” said Head Coach Alex Evin. “We appreciate how he treats people. He’s good with the young players, his line mates, his teammates, and everyone in the organization.”
“Kolton was the obvious choice as our Captain,” said General Manager Mike Hawes. “On top of wearing his heart on his sleeve every time he’s on the ice, he is a great teammate and person who genuinely cares about his peers, the organization and the people around him that support his hockey dream. He epitomizes what it means to be a Spruce King and demonstrates every day that he is very deserving of this honor. He is the next in a long list of tremendous Captains and leaders that this organization has had as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary season.”
