117 new cases of COVID-19 in northern BC

VICTORIA — The number of British Columbians fully vaccinated continues to inch upwards.

The province says 80.6% of eligible people 12 and older are now fully vaccinated.

A total of 652 new cases announced provincially today, for a total of 185,432 cases since the pandemic began.

There are 5,992 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 177,113 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 316 individuals are in hospital and 141 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The new/active cases include:

* 219 new cases in Fraser Health
* Total active cases: 2,249

* 70 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health
* Total active cases: 903

* 162 new cases in Interior Health
* Total active cases: 1,176

* 117 new cases in Northern Health
* Total active cases: 929

* 82 new cases in Island Health
* Total active cases: 677

* Two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada
* Total active cases: 58

In the past 24 hours, two new deaths (Island Health) have been reported, for an overall total of 1,942.

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 26.7 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.
