New pool 55% complete

PRINCE GEORGE – The new downtown pool is about 55% complete and, largely, on time.

“We’re tracking on schedule. We’re a couple of weeks behind. But for the most part, we’re on schedule and expecting to be opening in Q3 of 2022,” explains Leland Hanson, Project Manager.

Chandos in the prime contractor and made an effort to hire local sub-trades.

“Early on in the pre-construction process, our pre-con team did a great job meeting with the local construction association and then getting to meet with some of the local trades. We had very good buy-in,” explains Cody Brown, Project Coordinator with Chandos.

The new pool will be eye-catching and accessible and have features attractive for all ages and abilities:

*A six lane, 25-metre lap pool,

*A four lane, 25-metre teaching pool with warmer water and shallow depth,

*A leisure pool with a lazy river, beach entry, and play features,

*A large waterslide with a run-off lane,

*A “Ninja-Cross” obstacle course,

*Dedicated male and female change rooms, as well as a large universal change room,

*Sauna and steam room, and

*Rooms for lessons and training

The total cost of the project was $35 million, but the City received $10 million in funding from the federal government which Council opted to put against the debt.
