During that time when the shortage was taking place, many tests had to be sent to the BC CDC which lead to reported wait times of up to 7 days for some seeking a test.

CKPG News first asked for details around delays in COVID-19 testing on September 28, after three weeks, Northern Health finally responded by admitting there was a reagent shortage.

Several people in the city who were trying to get tested for the virus noted waiting times of up to four days, and several days from there to get results in early October.

Shirley Bond, Leader of the Opposition, and MLA for Prince George-Valemount says consistent access to testing and getting results to those tests in a timely manner is important.

Bond says she has been in discussions with Northern Health and BC Minister of Health Adrian Dix.

“We’ve raised the issue,” says Bond. “We need to make sure that our health authority has adequate resources.”
