PRINCE GEORGE – Since 2008 in British Columbia, more than 150 deaths have been caused by carbon monoxide gas.
The province is urging residents to take steps to stop carbon monoxide buildup. Carbon monoxide is known as “the silent killer.”
It’s produced when fuels don’t burn completely in fuel-burning appliances and devices. The gas can cause flu-like symptoms.
At very high levels, it can cause death. It’s recommended to schedule an annual inspection of all fuel-burning and install carbon monoxide alarms, which will detect the gas and alert anyone nearby about its presence.
