Herrington providing exclamation on Spruce Kings power-play

PRINCE GEORGE – When the Prince George Spruce Kings are on the man-advantage, you can put money on where 19-year-old John Herrington is going to park himself.

The team leads the BCHL in powerplay goals with 16. Four of those are from 19-year-old John Herrington, and they all have come from the same spot; top of the circle and with a one-timer.

Even the setup has looked the same. Simon Labelle goes down low, passes it up to Dylan Schives at the top, who then passes over to John Herrington at the top of the far circle. A one-timer that usually ends with the lighting of the lamp.

It looks near identical to how Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin has been racking up his powerplay goals over the years, however, the former Cariboo Cougar refuses to be compared to the future hall of famer.

Instead, he admits the shot is intended to create rebounds but at this point in the season, they seem to be finding their way in the back of the net instead.

“As long as they’re going in, I’ll keep shooting them,” said the Lake Superior State commit.

Through nine games, Herrington’s four powerplay goals lead the team.
