Trucking’s a tough gig

PRINCE GEORGE – Fox Pro is in training mode, teaching ten new drivers in Prince George and seven in Vancouver. But owner Don Bailey doesn’t sugar-coat it. It’s a tough racket.

“The biggest challenge right now is finding good qualified students who want to do the driver training. The industry itself is not a great industry. The pay’s not that great, long hours, 80 percent of the driving’s at night.”

To find those students, Bailey has gone overseas. In fact, he says there are 130,000 trained Class One drivers in the province right now, but only 47,000 of them are actually on the road.
