Young Cats working through early-season woes with the man-advantage

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Cougars are looking to rediscover the ‘power’ in their powerplay.

Through 15 games, the Cougars man-advantage unit is ranked last in the Western Hockey League at 10.3 per cent, and second-last in the entire Canadian Hockey League. The Sarnia Sting are currently operating at 9.5 per cent.

During the preseason, there was excitement around this team. Through four exhibition games, the Cougars were sitting at 45 per cent on the powerplay.

But once the regular season rolled around, the troubles started. The Cougars scored four powerplay goals in their first three games, however have since only scored twice for a combined six goals on 58 powerplays.

While last week offered little time for the team to work on their system units with the Cougars playing four games in five nights, this week is a different story. The Cougars will have five days worth of practice before the Tri-City Americans show up for a Friday-Saturday series at the CN Centre.

Our games scheduled for this Fri & Sat against Tri-City will proceed as originally planned. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm both days.
