Gun report at Williams Lake school sparks lockdown; two teens arrested

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Two youths were arrested after the Williams Lake RCMP were called to an incident outside a local school involving a firearm which sparked a lockdown on Friday (Nov. 19) afternoon.

At around 12:15 p.m., frontline officers from Williams Lake RCMP were called to a report of a person with a gun outside Lake City Secondary School’s Columneetza campus.

The school and several other nearby schools were placed in a lockdown.

Officers and a police service dog conducted a thorough search of the area and found two loaded guns.

Two teens have been arrested and remain in custody.

“While the investigation is continuing, early indications are the firearms may be linked to an overnight break-in at a local firearm retail outlet in Williams Lake,” said S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.
