PRINCE GEORGE- Students at Prince George Secondary School now have access to a new piece of equipment to give their metal manufacturing skills a leg up.

Precision Machinery and Guide has donated a $15,000 Haas Mini Mill for students to learn hands-on skills in machine tooling, automation, and production. The donation also has a preengineered Fidget Spinner Kit, which provides everything the instructor needs for their first student project. Josh Bergen, co-owner of Precision Machinery and Guide says having these skills will definitely help students that may be looking for an apprenticeship in the future.

“It’s like an Etch-A-Sketch, “explained Bergen, “but more precise. This will give students and teachers an opportunity to learn rendering manufacturing techniques.”

Precision Machinery and Guide is part of the BC Metal Manufacturing Advisory Group (BCMMAG), an organization that is working on drawing attention to CNC machining technology through initiatives at secondary schools. This work is being done to reduce the increasing manufacturing skills gap in BC’s fourth largest sector as a percentage of GDP.
