PRINCE GEORGE – A group of four were snowmobiling east of Mackenzie in the Sunshine Bowl in the Hasler area over the weekend.
According to Avalanche Canada, one person triggered a slide, and three party members were caught in the avalanche.
Two were partially buried and self rescued. The third was fully buried and did not survive. The avalanche size has been updated to three based on information from the scene.
Currently, Avalanche Canada is asking backcountry users in the North Rockies to “avoid all avalanche terrain” and to stay clear of overhead hazards.
