PRINCE GEORGE- Audrey McKinnon has thrown her hat into the ring for the School District 57 byelection. She has submitted nomination documents for the position of Board Trustee.

“As a parent, I understand the value of our education system and the influence it can have on the lives and development of strong, educated, conscientious children who will grow up to become leaders and good neighbours. I believe we can foster their growth through the school system by creating an inclusive environment for students that fosters their mental health while supporting the work of educators and making proactive decisions with full transparency,” McKinnon stated.

McKinnon ran for the NDP in the 2021 federal election, and now works as a Communications Specialist for the BC Financial Services Authority.

McKinnon is the first person to announce her candidacy for this position. Earlier on Tuesday, Rachael Weber announced her candidacy for the Mackenzie seat.

Weber who has two children in the system said she is running to ensure all children have equal opportunities.

Those currently on the SD57 Board of Education hope the list of candidates continues to grow in the coming days.

Tim Bennett said having local voices who can bring issues to the Ministry of Education is important and those considering running to become a school trustee should definitely join the race.

The byelection will take place on January 15, 2022.
