PRINCE GEORGE—The annual holiday tradition is back in action. Candy Cane Lane—the extravagant display of lights and decorations are taken up a neighborhood near to Van Bien Elementary School.

“We’re excited to welcome our community and surrounding communities back to our neighborhood.” said Penny Hacker, Organizer, Candy Cane Lane

Snowmen, reindeer, and of course Santa, are all back ready to spread joy and cheer. Hot chocolate is also being served on some nights. Residents spent the entire year organizing for the month long event.

It is another unusual year for them. The event kicked off on December 1st with not a drop of snow in sight. COVID-19 has also continued to put a damper on their activities, but not nearly as bad as it was last year. Organizers say giving back to the community is their top goal.

“Telus–because they wanted to start a new program ‘Telus Gives Back’ to the community. We are their first official even that they’re going to host.” said Hacker.

People can donate non-perishables, toys, money, and warm clothes. Some of the charities that will benefit from the decorated homes include Costumes for a Cause—a non-profit that aims to lift up the spirits for kids.

“We do birthday parties and events all 100% by donation. All of that money goes towards new costumes or getting gifts for kids in the hospital, or costume maintainance, or wherever we can help out in the community.” said Demmy Grist, Co-owner of Costumes for a Cause.

Lights will be on display every night between 4-6 p.m through the end of the month.

There are a few streets that are involved in the Candy Cane Lane event. For more information on the event, you can visit their Facebook page here
