Operations at Northwood and Taylor Pulp Mills curtailed due to flooding

PRINCE GEORGE- The local pulp industry continues to be hit hard by the extraordinary weather events in southern BC.

Canfor is temporarily curtailing production at the Northwood and Taylor Pulp Mills due to major damage and closures of critical rail and road infrastructure, which have left the company unable to transport materials. Kevin Anderson, Canfor Vice President of Operations expects the curtailment to last four weeks.

“Though we have tried our best to maintain normal operations, we have reached the point where we have no choice but to reduce our pulp production until the transportation networks we rely on return to more normal conditions. To accomplish the significant production reduction required, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily curtail production at our Northwood and Taylor Pulp Mills,” said Anderson.

Anderson says the backlog and congestion caused by the crisis are significant, and the company is expecting it will take some time for freight operations to normalize.
