FORT ST JAMES — RCMP are seeking two men who they say are ‘armed and dangerous’ in the Fort St James area.

Police say it all started at around 3 a.m. this morning with the attempted theft of equipment on the North Road.

Following the attempted theft, North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the suspects collided with an empty logging truck.

“Two men got out of their vehicle with long guns and made several shots at the logging truck, and a second logging truck that happened on the scene,” she says.

Shortly after that Saunderson says a logging truck was stolen then quickly abandoned. Saunderson says the pair then took off in an F350 truck.

She says containment lines have been set up in Mackenzie, Takla Landing and Fort St. James and notes the pair are still at large.

The RCMP’s emergency response team has been sent to the area along with police dog services.

There are no reported injuries and police say two guns have been recovered, though it’s unknown at this time if they were the guns used in the shooting.

In the meantime, area residents are asked to stay off the North Road.
