Pedestrian killed in Highway 97 collision

PRINCE GEORGE- Update: RCMP now say a pedestrian was killed in this morning’s collision on Highway 97.

BC Highway Patrol in Prince George has taken over the investigation with the assistance from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroners Service.

No other information has been released.

Earlier: The road is now cleared.

Earlier: According to Drive BC, the highway has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic. Possible delays due to heavy volume.

Earlier: RCMP say that this morning’s fatal collision occurred under suspicious circumstances. No other information has been released.

Earlier: A fatal early morning collision on Highway 97 near Widdis Road in the Woodpecker area, some 45 kilometres south of Prince George. That stretch of highway is expected to be closed for several hours while police investigate. Please refer to DriveBC for updates.

Investigators are asking any witnesses, including persons with dashcam video, that may have traveled through this area between 1 and 3:30 morning (Wednesday) to please contact Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300.
