Simon Fraser Bridge damaged by suspected impaired driver
PRINCE GEORGE- Police attended a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 at the Simon Fraser Bridge yesterday (Thursday) just before 6:00 pm.
Upon arrival, officers noticed a pickup truck had collided with a gaurd rail on the bridge. They suspected the driver was impaired and he was arrested. The 47-year-old man was later released with a court date set for March. According to BC RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson, the man could face impaired driving charges.
“This crash happened at a busy time of the day when traffic can be heavy. This could have been much worse. There is never an excuse to drive while impaired and if you do, not only do you put yourself in danger, you potentially put others at risk,” stated Saunderson.
The driver was the only one in the vehicle at the time of the incident and no injuries have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.
