Potentially record breaking snowfall hits Prince George

Dec 22, 2021 | 8:59 AM

PRINCE GEORGE- Environment Canada says the Prince George area has seen continuous snowfall for 24 hours straight. While it is still unknown exactly how much snow has fallen, Meteorologist Brian Proctor says it was significant, and potentially record breaking.

“The most snowfall recorded for December 21 was 11.4 cm in 1949, and for December 22, it was 15 cm recorded in 1967,” he explained.

The snowfall warning is still in effect, but Environment Canada could rescind it later this morning or even this afternoon. Proctor says the heaviest snowfall is now over as 2-4 cm is expected to fall throughout the day.

Prince George is in for some chilly weather in the next couple of days, with minus 17 expected for tomorrow during the day before dropping to minus 21 overnight. It is expected to drop to the low minus 20’s overnight on the 24 and 25. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover around minus 20. Arctic air could bring cold pulses of wind, which will make it feel much colder than it is.
