‘They lost everything’: Christmas morning fire destroys home on South Bednesti Lake Road

PRINCE GEORGE — A Christmas to forget for a family out at Bednesti Lake who lost their home to a fire.

The blaze broke out sometime between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. this morning on South Bednesti Lake Road, only leaving enough time for the family of six to escape with the shirts on their backs.

Mark Shaw says his son Nick is in hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and frost bite to his feet after racing back in to try and save his pets in the frigid weather. Sadly, he was unsuccessful and lost two dogs and at least one cat.

“It’s pretty bad, they lost everything,” he told CKPG News. “They’ve got no clothing, nothing. They even lost all their Christmas presents.”

Nick and his wife Chandler have four girls, aged 14, 11, 7 and six weeks. Mark says by the time the Beaverly Volunteer Fire Department arrived, there was nothing they could do.

The family also lost four vehicles in the blaze. He says the cause is unknown. If you’d like to help the family, you can make a donation through a gofundme page that’s been set up. As of 3:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon, it had already raised over $19,000.
