Community rallies around Shaw family following devastating fire

PRINCE GEORGE – Following a devastating fire on Christmas morning which completely destroyed the Shaw family home at Bednesti Lake, the community has rallied.

Immediately following the news of the fire, the community began fundraising for a family who only made it out of their home with the shirts on their backs.

“It’s been overwhelming,” said Nick Shaw, who barely escaped the fire after going back in to try and save four family pets who never made it out.

Nick suffered from extreme frostbite to his feet, and third-degree burns which nearly resulted in the loss of both of his feet.

“I think it was about 45 minutes and the place was flat on the ground,” said the father of four.

The youngest daughter is just six weeks old, with three others aged 14, 11, and 7-years-old.

Over $50k has been raised through a Gofundme, and clothes poured in for dad, mom, and their four young daughters.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and it is also still unknown if insurance will cover the damages.

Donations continue to be accepted for the family online, as well as donations in clothing through a Facebook page established to help out.
