Prince Rupert RCMP respond to nearly one mental health related call every day in 2021

PRINCE RUPERT: The Prince Rupert RCMP responded to 358 mental health related filed in 2021, nearly one for every single day in the calander year. A total 8,435 files, with 636 resulting in charge recommendations.

In addition, 77 impaired driving related files were made, 21 of which resulted in charges being laid. There were 24 related to COVID-19 and 21 related to November’s windstorm. 48 check stops were conducted as well.

“We are thankful for the people of Prince Rupert for being steadfast through what turned out to be another challenging year. The City never wavered through the pandemic, because of the strength of the people who live here. Your dedication to creating a better community is evident every day, and we as police officers experience it as we serve Prince Rupert,” stated Cst. Brody Hemrich, Media Relations Officer for the Prince Rupert RCMP.
