Additional DriveBC webcams brought to Northern BC highways
NORTHERN BC- Residents across the province can now be more prepared for road trips. 13 new cameras and 33 more views have been added to the DriveBC webcam network. Two of which are located in the North. There are now 480 highway cameras across BC, delivering 953 views.
One of the new ones in the north is located on Highway 16 at Highway 37S near Terrace, which was launched on August 17. The other can be found on Highway 37N at Kitwancool Access Road about 2.5 km south of Gitanyow.
Every year, new cameras are installed throughout the province so drivers can plan for traffic and weather conditions on the route ahead. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says this is especially important during winter and as drivers plan trips on unfamiliar routes due to road closures resulting from November’s washouts.
According to the province, webcam locations are assessed based on needs identified by residents, contractors or weather experts. The webcams can be viewed online 24/7 on the DriveBC website.
