MACKENZIE- A man who is bound by conditions not to be near Mackenzie was arrested yesterday at a residence on Kerry Crescent yesterday (Thursday).

Police in Mackenzie were informed that a local 32-year-old man, who has previously been charged and is currently bound by probation conditions not to be within 30 km of the town of Mackenzie was seen at a local residence.

Upon arrival, officers heard a man and a woman inside the home. When speaking with the woman, she stated the man had left, although officers had surrounded the residence and had witnessed no one leaving.

“Several hours later, with a Feeney Warrant in hand, and assistance from the RCMP North District Emergency Response and Police Service Dog Teams, officers returned to the residence to arrest the man. He was taken into custody without incident, after being found hiding in the basement,” stated S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.

The man will remain in custody and has not yet been charged. He is expected to appear in court later today via teleconference.

“It is as a result of a tip from the public that we were able to arrest this individual, we want to encourage the community to continue to report any and all criminal and suspicious incidents, together we can make Mackenzie a safe place to live and work,” added Cpl. Calvin Aird of the Mackenzie RCMP.
