Driver in Dawson Creek caught going nearly 60km/hr over limit
DAWSON CREEK- Last Tuesday, Dawson Creek RCMP was conducting speed enforcement efforts on Highway 97 around 10:00 pm, when they observed a driver going well over the speed limit. Police say he was going 158km/hr in a 100km/hr zone on icy roads.
The vehicle was headed westbound and when the driver was pulled over, it was determined he had been drinking. A breathalyzer test found the motorist was over the legal blood alcohol limit and was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The driver’s actions also netted him a 30-day vehicle impound and an additional $477 in fines for speeding and tinted windows.
BC RCMP Cpl Mike Halskov says the actions of this driver, had he not been stopped, could have resulted in a serious or fatal incident involving innocent motorists. The speed enforcement work was conducted as part of Impaired Driving Enforcement month.
