Double and triple vaccination rates fluctuate across Prince George

NORTHERN BC- With BC well into the fifth wave of the pandemic, COVID-19 cases are climbing in the north. Since last Thursday, the region has seen 929 new cases, and as of yesterday (Wednesday) has 720 active cases. This comes as 84% of Northern BC’s population has received one dose of vaccination, while 79% have received two doses.

There are 16 health service delivery areas across the Northern Interior, five of which are located in Prince George. PG-City Southwest has the highest double vaccination rate in the Northern Interior, which also encompasses Quesnel, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake and Mackenzie. Meanwhile, Vanderhoof Rural has the lowest rate in the Northern Interior, with 63%.

The double vaccination rate fluctuates between 75% to 89% across the five health service delivery areas in Prince George. The PG-City Southwest area has the highest rate of double vaccinated residents with 89%. This region is followed up closely by PG City- Central with 85%.

When it comes to third doses in Prince George, each health service delivery area has between 15-18% coverage. When compared to the rest of the Northern Interior, it is on the low end as the rate is between 23% to 31% across Burns Lake, and 20% to 22% in Quesnel. However, PG is slightly ahead of Vanderhoof when it comes to booster shots, as Vanderhoof is at 13%, and Vanderhoof Rural’s rate is 12%.
